About our Chapter
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.’s Zeta Chi Sigma Chapter has been proudly serving Prince George’s County, Maryland, and the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area since its founding in 1978.
The chapter’s story began on Monday, September 25, 1978, when Brothers Bentley, Parker, Hughes, Roberts, and Baugh gathered at Bro. Baugh’s home to discuss establishing a new chapter in the Washington Metro area. Their mission was to engage unaffiliated brothers in the region and reignite their passion for Sigma.
After careful planning and outreach, a charter was officially granted on November 28, 1979. The chapter’s charter members included Bro. William L. Bentley, III, Bro. Jonathan Hughes, Bro. Dr. Albert Roberts, Bro. Dr. Ellsworth Johnson, Bro. Dr. Rudolph Wiggins, Bro. Rev. Julian O. Grayson, Bro. Warren F. Baugh, Sr., Bro. Philip Lee, and its last surviving charter member, Bro. Arthur W. Parker, Jr.
Rooted in Prince George’s County, the Zeta Chi Sigma Chapter continues to serve as a vital extension of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., impacting the entire Washington, D.C. Metro area with Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.

What Makes Zeta Chi Sigma Special?
We are a dynamic chapter of over 130 Sigma men, ranging in age from their 20s to 80s, with an average age of 48.8 years. More than half of our brothers hold advanced degrees, and nearly 40% have military service experience.
Our diverse expertise and commitment to service span across multiple industries, from business to education, healthcare, and beyond. With this blend of experience, passion, and influence, we are poised to make a lasting impact in every community we touch.
Serving Our Communities with Dedication and Impact
The majority of our brothers reside in Upper Marlboro (24.8%), Bowie (23.9%), and Waldorf, where we’ve made meaningful contributions to local communities. We’ve worked alongside key leaders like Senator Alonzo Washington, Councilmembers Wala Blegay, Sydney Harrison, Ingrid Watson, and Mayor Keith Sydnor to deliver real results.
At Zeta Chi Sigma, we believe service takes many forms, and we recognize that the needs of those we serve are constantly evolving. Our chapter actively mobilizes to address these needs, collaborating with local organizations and businesses to amplify the impact of our efforts and drive positive change in our communities.
About Phi Beta Sigma
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is a global organization built on a legacy of excellence. Its journey began on Friday, January 9, 1914, when the Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown founded the fraternity on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.
These visionary founders established a tradition of cultivating distinguished scholars dedicated to impacting society through the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. Over a century later, with more than 225,000 members initiated, Phi Beta Sigma stands as one of the oldest African American institutions in the nation. Its members have consistently been high achievers, trailblazers, and influential leaders.
